June 07, 2000: Musical catharsis can emerge from a zen like stillness. An emotional vortex, while noticed, will remain detached. ---- Somei Satoh's fascination with the ideas of scholar D.T. Suzuki, can then work to shape his interpretations on the heavenly spheres and the awesome variety of the celestial lights that influence them. ---- The piano, touched by Margaret Leng Tan, becomes like a force of nature. On the wind, are the notes, like birds. The geometry of their flight becoming warped in time, an intricate dance of instinctual incarnation. The digital delay line makes possible a repetition of the moment, so that we may witness, again and again, their soaring graceful prescence. ---- Eventually, a gate into the stars opens. We cross the threshold, into a profound vision of etherial litania. Again and again, waves of sound embrace us, show us their benevolence. ---- As in an afterglow, a zen like stillness remains, long after the music ends.
