About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The Norwegian pop star Sissel has the kind of haunting voice that lingers long with a listener. Ethereal, gripping in its clarity, fragile in its openness, yet secure in its projection, it’s also a voice that can handle a world of song. On Sissel this eclectic stylist brings her lovely vocal manner to a wide variety of material, ranging from Neil Sedaka’s “Solitaire” to such traditional folk tunes as the American “Shenandoah” and the Scandinavian “Lare Meg A Kjenne” to saxophonist Jan Gabarek’s “Molde Canticle,” which Sissel approaches as a wordless vehicle for her soaring tones. If touches of Celine Dion and Enya can be felt in Sissel’s interpretations of the pop-ish ballads that make up the majority of the album, she still brings her own distinct sensibility to the project, one that should draw considerably more American listeners to her. August 24, 2003: I first heard Sissel in Norway some 12 years ago.It was her Christmas album and the voice was brilliant in clarity and expression. I now have several of her CD's. They are all good. Her singing of the Olympic Hymn at Lillehammer was inspiring.
