All of Rosemary Clooney's Concord albums are easily recommended to jazz listeners, for although she is not an improviser herself (preferring to state melodies fairly straight but with sincere feeling and a light swing), Clooney has featured top mainstream soloists on each of her records. This album (which features tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton, cornetist Warren Vaché, guitarist Cal Collins, pianist Nat Pierce, and vibraphonist Cal Tjader) is fortunately no exception. Clooney's straightforward but enthusiastic and understanding interpretations of Cole Porter's sophisticated lyrics uplift even the most familiar of the tunes.
