About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Talk about anomalies: At a time when indie rock and hip-hop were ascendant, Billy Corgan emerged with unapologetically progressive music and blew up. His Smashing Pumpkins and their captivating wall of guitar sound highlighted Gish, their 1991 debut, thereby raising the stakes for this 1993 follow-up. The Chicago-based group didn't disappoint. All of the Pumpkins -- guitarist James Iha, bassist D'Arcy, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin (a United Colors of Benneton crew chosen by Corgan in part for their diversity) -- admired Boston and it's not hard to hear "Today" as a "More Than a Feeling" for the '90s. Elsewhere Corgan and co-producer Butch Vig lay on the guitars thick and heavy, with some tunes containing 32 separate guitar tracks. It may seem indulgent, but the onslaught only heightens the angst in Corgan's lyrics. Martin Johnson, Barnes & Noble

MUST HAVEby onlyoriginalmusic

July 06, 2009: If you are into original music, like hard-driving guitar rifs along with complex drumming and still want a bit of mellow introspection, this is a must-have album. Kicking off with hard-rocking Cherub Rock and Quiet, then moving into a somewhat more mellow Today, this Pumpkins collection will take you on a journey rarely found in post-70's music. If you want an album that sounds about the same from beginning to end, this is not for you. Screaming vocals to mellow whispers, in your face guitars and drums to the ultra-mellow Disarm featuring strings and chimes, Siamese Dream will allow you to follow the complexity of Billy Corgan and his innner-reflection in his music.

July 20, 2007: From start to finish this album is amazing, not a single weak track, it's all around better than Nevermind, Ten, Blue, Etc. If you made me listen to one album the rest of my life, it would undoubtfully be Siamese Dream.
