For a virtuoso as consummate as Marc-André Hamelin, Shostakovich’s piano concertos might seem almost like a stroll in the park. On the other hand, their mercurial shifts of mood might easily elude him. Neither suspicion is confirmed by this fine new recording, however. Certainly the Canadian's famed technical command is as exciting as ever. David Fanning
