Following up on his popular Appalachia Waltz album (featuring Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O'Connor), virtuoso double bass player and composer Edgar Meyer offers this new program of down-home music. These feel-good pieces have wryly waggish titles like "Concert Duo, the Prequel" and "Death by Triple Fiddle." The disc mixes Stravinsky-like rhythms with barn dances -- not surprising from a musician who's equally at home in the Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall. They are played with confidence, precision, and infectious joy. Meyer is joined by star classical fiddler Joshua Bell, and Nashville veterans Sam Bush on mandolin and violin and Mike Marshall on guitar, mandolin, and violin. Short Trip Home is so sweet, one wishes it were longer. Benjamin Ivry, Barnes & Noble
