May 11, 2004: I picked this album off a Recommended shelf at a BN store, and it's become one of my favorites! The first song, Revelate, hooked me in, because I loved the sheer exuberance of the music, combined with the raw, driven sound of the live recording. Every track on this cd is worth your time, even the tracks that are over 8 minutes long. Edgy rockers like "Revelate" are side-by-side with the sweet and almost funny "Star Star", the jaunty "Rent Day Blues" (complete with banjo and fiddle solos) and epic almost-ballads like "Santa Maria". What I love about this album is the presence of an obviously devoted audience, which frequently joins in on the lyrics. If you're considering this cd, check out #5 "What Happens When the Heart Just Stops" (has a great intro), and "Lay Me Down" (which runs into a cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire"). H*ll, just check out all of them!
