Editorial Reviews

In the romantic film Serendipity, John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale have a chance meeting in the Big Apple, spend a few hours together, fall in love, and then go their separate ways, hoping that fate will one day reunite them. Among the slate of adult-pop stars helping set the tone for this idealistic tale are Shawn Colvin, who uses the lush "When You Know" to pay homage to the certainty of predestined love, and Annie Lennox, who checks in with a trip-hop-flavored rendition of Bob Marley's classic "Waiting in Vain," which originally appeared on her album Medusa. Other transcendent moments d'amour take a folk-pop turn, among them Evan & Jaron's sweeping declaration of yearning on "The Distance," David Gray's delicate, acoustic guitar-driven instrumental "January Rain," and "Northern Sky," a gorgeous Nick Drake nugget that's a mid-tempo mix of light piano arrangements, gently strummed guitar, and chimes. Louis Armstrong provides the album with its jazzy, When Harry Met Sally-esque moment with the swinging "Cool Yule," and Canadian up-and-comer Chantal Kreviazuk keeps the tempo upbeat with a twangy ode to optimism, "This Year." Although the film's story line about Cusack's quest to rediscover his soul mate (Beckinsale) may sound somewhat contrived, the soundtrack's eclectic mix of artists and genres makes for an unpredictable musical journey. April 29, 2006: This CD brings back lovely memories of being a newlywed, as my husband bought this CD for me soon after we got married. The music on here is GREAT to listen to when you are cleaning your kitchen or tidying your house - as I know from experience! I LOVE all of the songs on this CD, especially "When you Know," "Like Lovers Do," "Never a Day," "This Year," and so forth. I listen to this CD in my car and at home - it's so romantically upbeat!

July 24, 2002: Sererendipity is my favorite movie. This soundtrack is great too. It introduces artists that I haven't even heard of. Bap Kenndey's ''Moonlight Kiss'' is a great song. It's country...Irish country for those who don't like country. It's different, but I like it. If you enjoyed the movie, the soundtrack is awesome.
