About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Selected Ambient Works, Vol. 2 is a more difficult and challenging album than Aphex Twin's previous collection. The music is all texture; there are only the faintest traces of beats and forward movement. Instead, all of these untitled tracks are long, unsettling electronic soundscapes, alternately quiet and confrontational; although most of the music is rather subdued, it is never easy listening. While some listeners may find this double-disc album dull (both discs run over 70 minutes), many listeners will be intrigued and fascinated by the intricately detailed music of Aphex Twin. May 17, 2002: It's minimalistic. It's surreal. It's cosy. It's scary. It's fantastic. It's Aphex Twin. This man is not to be laughed at. But to the album, this is not a product for the masses. These songs are all different. I'll try to describe it. The ambient noises of Aphex T, especially for this album are just plain expressed emotions. Layers in the songs changes, but the stirring noises remain.Sure, it takes some time to reveal the might of this record, but once you're in to it.... Some of the songs could have been melodious pop tunes, just for the greatness of the melodies, but instead they are wrapped up in mystery, still there for everybody to explore. It makes your mind flutter, wander, and it will suck you down to a atmospheric symbiosis with your perception and conciousness.
