About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Reggae's most committed revolutionary, the late Peter Tosh pioneered musical crusades for the legalization of marijuana and the dismantling of South Africa's apartheid system while swinging a guitar shaped like an M-16. This best-of album contains nine tracks culled from EQUAL RIGHTS and LEGALIZE IT. Also included: the title cut from Tosh's Rolling Stones Records debut, the enigmatic "Bush Doctor," featuring Keith Richards on guitar and Peter on autoharp. The R&B cover of the Temptations's "Walk and Don't Look Back," boasts Mick Jagger on guest vocals. An acoustic version of the quintessential uprising anthem "Get Up, Stand Up," an early '60s ska version of "One Love," and the previously unreleased "Mystery Babylon" round out this package from the fallen reggae hero, truly one of the music's most fascinating personalities. March 21, 2003: I think it is a great album but to compare it to "legalize it" and rate it better,i have to say something about that... Umm..yah..im going to have to disagree with you there....ummm...yah. Though it is one of my favorite of peters cds, but the title doesnt tell the whole truth, "The best of Peter Toshs". I think they could have taking some songs out and put some songs in.

March 31, 2001: Peter Tosh is one of the most prophetic and, at the same time, overlooked voices in music history. This album captures his true genius at its peak, with songs such ''Stepping Razor'', ''Down pressor Man'', his live version of ''Get up, Stand up'', ''Igzhiaber'', and of course, ''Legalize it'', which is a song that proves he was the only artist at the time who had the guts enough to call for the legalization of marijuana.
