Mr. Quasthoff has a gorgeous, rich voice and a visceral connection to music and words; as you listen to him channel the "Schwanengesang," doors seem to open in your head. His reading of Brahms's "Four Serious Songs" is pretty fine, but the Schubert is in a class by itself. Anne Midgette

With his well-nigh perfect technique, Quasthoff produces his tone throughout the registers with no audible strain, evenly, unfettered. Then his speeds always seem the just ones, phrasing is seamless and long-breathed, the emotions projected from, as it were, within the musical arch he creates... Anyone who wants this discerningly chosen match of works need not hesitate. Alan Blyth
