About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

SOiL relies on heavy riffs and catchy choruses to hook listeners in with their album, Scars. Scars is a straight-up rock & roll album, albeit with a modern twist that will make older listeners reminisce of rock from their youth, yet still has enough raw energy to keep younger fans entertained. SOiL, who has found stability with J Records and this release, is bound to break through rock's glass ceiling. Songs such as "Breaking Me Down" and "Halo" have evident commercial appeal, yet have a coarse grittiness that is refreshing compared to many well-oiled industry singles. Vocalist Ryan McCombs has rock star quality oozing from his every pore, and listening to his boisterous bellows, one can easily envision him alongside such icons as Axl Rose and James Hetfield. SOiL surely has a stable future ahead of them, as Scars is an album that embraces the rambunctious spirit of rock & roll and allows it to overwhelm the listener. SOiL may not appeal to those looking for the latest in hip-hop/metal, but for those wishing a band would come along who could induce the feelings that Appetite for Destruction or Metallica's Black album once did, Scars is for you. ~ Jason D. May 26, 2004: I have to vote this one of my all time favorite heavy metal bands and one of my favorite albums from Soil. They are the best and show everyone out there what heavy metal is supposed to sound like. I would have given this more than ten stars but the thing would only allow me to give it five stars which i'm guessing is the hightest. i hope you all go out and by the cd and let it become one of your all time favorites just like me.

November 30, 2003: I would have rated this album 10 stars, but 5 was the highest possible. Scars by SoiL is hands down the best heavy metal album to come out in recent years. The single song "Halo" off of the album is a pounding, earth shaking, skull crushing metal anthem that would blow away any fan of hard rock. SoiL's lead singer, Ryan McCombs, has a rolling thunder voice that drowns out Sevendust, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit, and every other so called "nu metal" band combined. This is in no way a modern type rap/metal hybrid, this is old fashioned, wall smashing, axe grinding heavy metal.
