    About this Artist

    Editorial Reviews

This well-recorded, two-CD set catches Regina in extremely outgoing and expressive form. Highlights include inventive reworkings of classics such as Nascimento's "Cançao da America" (complete with Andean flutes and percussion). The most daring piece is Ary Barroso's "Aquarela do Brasil." Here the '50s standard is superimposed on Native Indian tribal chanting, giving new meaning to the song's lyric, "Brazil, my Brazilian Brazil." This is one of her greatest recordings, though not a first choice for the unacquainted. Complete Portuguese lyrics are included. (Note: Disc one was released in the U.S. in 1992 on Tropical Storm as That Woman. A 1991 Tropical Storm release entitled Elis por Ela includes three cuts from disc two but omits the remaining seven.)
