You may not recognize Verdan Smailovich's name, but you may remember the indelible image of the cellist who played in the war-ravaged city square of Sarajevo for 22 days during the fighting there. The music he played, Albinoni's Adagio, is included on this disc, a collaborative project with Tommy Sands, another musician who has seen war tear the fabric of his homeland -- Northern Ireland. While recent peace talks were going on in that country, Sands and Smailovich recorded "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" with choruses of Protestant and Catholic schoolchildren. It became an anthem of healing for the country. Smailovich plays a "Waltz," which is intimately associated with Serbian history, and an original meditation on the "Child of 2000." Joan Baez and Pete Seeger, two musicians whose own work has been closely linked with humanitarian causes, lend their voices as guests. Kerry Dexter, Barnes & Noble
