About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

These days it seems like you can throw a rock in any direction and hit an aspiring teenypopper. But these seven perky British coeds have a leg up over their competition in the race for the candy-pop crown -- they have their own TV show. The plot? Well, it doesn't really matter; all you need to know is that these preternaturally good-looking teens get stuck on the beach in Miami, they like to have fun and every now and then, they break into song and dance. The "S Club 7" TV series is a "Monkees" for Generation Y -- it's equal parts Britney, Backstreet, "Saved By the Bell," and Spice Girls. (Simon Fuller, the creator of S Club 7, was also the mastermind behind Girl Power, so it's not surprising that the super-catchy Euro-dance pop on S CLUB has Spice-y production values.) The vocals -- uncomplicated harmonies behind mostly female alternating soloists -- are pleasantly sweet and they sound best on the charming, starry-eyed single "Bring It All Back" and the teen-love song "Two in a Million." S CLUB also incorporates the show's Miami theme into a couple of fun Latin-lite tunes, "It's a Feel Good Thing" and "Viva La Fiesta." One complaint: The lyrics "Hoochie mamas, show your nanas" has no place in the song "S Club Party" -- especially for a show on the Fox Family network. Ganda Suthivarakom, Barnes & Noble
