About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The Debby Boone of the 1977 smash “You Light Up My Life” is simply a different creature from the assured, jazz-inflected vocalist who shines throughout this heartfelt tribute to the legendary Rosemary Clooney. Family ties -- Boone is married to Clooney’s son Gabriel -- reveal themselves in both the easygoing swing that Boone has obviously gleaned from study of her mother-in-law’s work and the obvious affection that wells from this labor of love. Surrounding herself with superlative musicians associated with Clooney, including arranger John Oddo and saxophonist Scott Hamilton, Boone takes on such signature Clooney tunes as “Time After Time,” “It Might as Well Be Spring,” and “You’re Gonna Hear from Me.” While never aping Clooney’s inimitable style, Boone is able to evoke Clooney’s special gifts as a hit-making singer who could nonetheless swing with the best of them. The result is a quality tribute, one that can be enjoyed for its own contemporary charms, while also adding a new appreciation of the artist being celebrated. And be sure to catch the “hidden” track featuring Clooney herself on a solo demo version of “Blue Skies” -- a classy coda to a classy project. William Pearl, Barnes & Noble
