Editorial Reviews

Radio Disney: Kid Jams, Vol. 5 collects still more Disney-friendly teen pop, including Christina Milan's "Call Me, Beep Me" (which is used in the Disney animated TV series Kim Possible), Dream Street's "I Say Yeah," and the A-Teens' cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love." Most of the collection reflects the stale, recycled feel of teen pop after its late-'90s heyday (you know the collection is in trouble when a remix of *NSYNC's "Pop" is one of the freshest-sounding tracks on it). 3 Doors Down's "Kryptonite" and LMNT's "Hey Juliet" inject a little rock into the proceedings, but more often than not the songs here tend toward the creepy (Play's ode to obsessive preteen love, "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me") or sickly sweet (Aaron Carter's annoyingly self-referential "Oh Aaron"). There is some fun to be had on this collection, with the Baha Men's appealingly dumb "Move It Like This," the cartoon-pop of Simon and Milo's "Get a Clue," and No Secrets' cover of "Kids in America" (surely the unofficial anthem of the teen pop of the 2000s). M2M's "Everything" is the standout track here, and makes their relatively small fame that much more of a mystery. Despite its predictability, the collection will probably please its target audience.
