About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Drummer Frank Capp heads a quartet/quintet that features the fine tenor Rickey Woodard on a variety of straightahead material. With pianist Tom Ranier, bassist Chuck Berghofer and (on two of the nine numbers) trumpeter Nolan Smith, Capp and Woodard (who switches to alto on two songs) play six standards and three group originals. Highlights of this swinging mainstream session (which was released by Concord in 1995) include Woodard's "Dip Stick," Clifford Brown's "Daahoud," "Tadd's Delight" and "Things Ain't What They Used to Be."
