About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Flutist Herbie Mann opened up his music on this date for Push Push (and during the era) toward R&B, rock and funk music. The results were generally appealing, melodic and danceable. On such songs as "What's Going On," "Never Can Say Goodbye," "What'd I Say" and the title cut, Mann utilizes an impressive crew of musicians, which include guitarist Duane Allman and keyboardist Richard Tee. April 05, 2006: Neal Rosengarden was left off of the credits. He now spells his name Neil Rosengarden (legal) and he was the Production Assistant on Push Push. Whoever left him off should be tarred and feathered.

February 08, 2000: I love Herbie Mann, he is totally mint deluxe. When he starts a-blowin that flute it sho'nuff is a mellow groove. A stone get-off you might say. The only drawback is on some of his tapes he's got this guitar player named Sonny Sharrock. He just makes noise, and that's not music! I dig a smooth, flutey melody to sooth my jangled nerves. Thankfully, this Push Push tape doesn't have any Sonny Sharrock to ruin it. Sit back, kick the shoes off and feel the funky flute man blow! And the cover is a treat for the eyes!!
