April 10, 2002: If you enjoy Prokofiev's piano concerti in general with the 1st in particular this is a must have. The performance once again displays Argerich's ability to show off both her staggering tehnique and musicianship - a combination that is rare these days. The 1st is early Prokofiev, his opus 10. The composer was harshly criticized for the music at the time it was premiered. Argerich's playing is brilliant where it is called for: the outer movements. Her octaves and passages are stunning. Also included on the CD are excellent performances of the Bartok 3rd piano concerto and the Prokofiev 3rd piano concerto also very well performed. The Orchestre du Montreal conducted by Charles Dutoit does an excellent job accompanying her. Once again we must thank EMI for making these recordings.
