About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The unstoppable Ray Price has continually sought out new musical landscapes in which to give his astounding vocal talents free reign. PRISONER OF LOVE finds the Cherokee Cowboy in wonderful form on a collection of honky-tonk and pop standards backed by a swinging orchestra. Not unlike Willie Nelson's breakout STARDUST, this disc finds a veteran interpreter injecting a little country into the pop songbook. "Fly Me to the Moon," "What a Wonderful World," and the title cut show Price to be adept at making standards glow with his own personality and vision. Now in his mid-70's, Price is no longer the possessor of the high tenor that first caught the ears of Hank Williams fans in the early 1950s. His range has dropped several notches, yet his smooth delivery still shines through, and the gravel in his voice belies the years of experience Price brings to these charts. PRISONER OF LOVE is a lush and precious disc. It's a gift from an old friend who survived the country music NIGHT LIFE for more than 50 years. The twinkle in Ray Price's voice leaves no doubt: It's been a beautiful journey so far. Karl Hagstrom Miller Barnes & Noble

January 22, 2007: All his songs are beautiful! I just love his "Soft Rain" song. He wrote it, you know. I have that song in several of his LP's and CD's. I just love it. He has changed his rendition of it many times over the years. His mentor was Hank Williams. Hank was a very prolific song writer. There will never be another Hank. However, I didn't really like his voice. So, when Ray Price came along, I was in heaven. This album is a softer side of Ray. His Ramblin' Rose and In My Life, I Wish I Was Eighteen Again...all these songs are a tribute to his incredible versatility, his ability to sing in any genre is amazing. I have been a fan of Mr. Price since I was 17 and heard him for the first time. I couldn't get enough of him. I have been a faithful fan all my life. To me, he is and always will be the best singer in any genre ever. I know you will also enjoy and appreciate his wonderful voice. His voice touches every fiber of your being...you can feel his pain and tears...

May 04, 2002: Ray Price has been around for over 50 years. This says a lot for artists in all styles of music. Prisoner of Love has a lot of classic songs done in a classy style. ''Fly Me to the Moon'', ''Rambling Rose'', ''Soft Rain'' are my personal favorites. All the songs are good. If you like strings in music like I do then this is a must. The Nashville Sound is the best!!
