About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Charlotte Church was only 12 when her debut album, Voice of an Angel, was released 1998, launching the precocious Welsh soprano into overnight stardom with a program of traditional and classical songs. A self-titled disc followed in 1999 that focused on operatic classics; the Christmas-themed Dream a Dream came out in 2000; and Enchantment appeared in 2001, broadening the singer's repertoire into Broadway song. Prelude: The Best of Charlotte Church gathers highlights from each of these top-selling albums, beginning with "Pie Jesu," the opening track from Church's debut disc, and continuing with "Amazing Grace," "Ave Maria," and more. Also included are selections not found on the singer's solo discs, such as "All Love Can Be" from the soundtrack to A Beautiful Mind and "The Prayer," a duet with another young sensation, Josh Groban, that was featured on his debut disc. Four previously unreleased tracks complete the collection, including Church's cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic, "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Barnes & Noble

February 21, 2009: I purchased this primairily for Ave Maria and Pie Jesu. Her clarity of voice and phrasing bring me comfort and peace at times when I want to be quiet, alone with my self and just in tune with the Spirt within me. It was a purchase that replaced a previous recording by the same artist

Nice child-like voice to be appreciated.by Anonymous

August 04, 2008: I must admit I expected a more mature sounding voice even for her age, which on this disk spans from 12-16 years. I think miss church lacks the silkiness or clarity in the voice to produce a commanding tone in an opera, but nonetheless she is not an opera singer, but a classical performer aided by a mic.She should not be judjed alonside the likes of Renee fleming or Natalie dessay. It is her age also. Mostly her voice appears veiled and breathy, as I pointed out lacks the refined finess that a high soprano should have and what is left is an often raspy, thin, and weak sound that sound more like a young boy soprano. Yet her I'd hate to dismiss her as a good artist just beacuse somebody doesn't have powerful, and full voice doesn't mean you should not appreaciate a young voice of delictae beauty that in my opinion is a genre of its own.
