Spun off the insanely popular Japanese video game and animated TV series about a trio of kids and the fascinating creatures they alternately track, befriend, and battle, this album's a can't-miss item with the Pokémon masters of your own domain. For the most part, it's pleasant if generic pop-R&B (with, frankly, a few too many ballads), thirteen tunes inspired by some aspect of the Pokémon phenomenon: "2.B. A. Master," for instance, runs down all existing classifications of the critters (grass, fire, electric, water, etc.). There's even an amusing number, "Double Trouble," performed by the hilariously inept enemy trio known as Team Rocket. The real draw here, though, is the entire "PokéRAP." As the regular bit that closes the "Pokémon" TV show each weekday, "PokéRAP" names 150 known species of Pokémon in hip-hop style, but the song's divided into five different parts. Here, though, is the whole enchilada, with printed lyrics too (which helps enormously if, like me, you tend to get stuck learning the one that goes, "Kabuto, Persian, Paras, Horsea, Raticate, Magnemite, Kadabra, Weepinbell...") As a bonus, the "PokéRAP" video portion can be viewed on the enhanced CD version. Moira McCormick, Barnes & Noble
