Editorial Reviews

The score for the feature film starring Liv Tyler and Robert Carlyle, Plunkett & Macleane alternates somber orchestral passages reminiscent of Gorecki's "Third," the modern classical standby, with a few electronically enhanced moments more in league with Armstrong's compatriots in Massive Attack and Alpha. ~ Keith Farley, All Music Guide All Music Guide

May 27, 2000: This soundtrack is one of the best instrumental albums to come out in a long time. I am a lover of a variety of music so the combination of orchestra, choir with a touch of keyboard programming is perfect recipe. The flow of the album moves smoothly from subtle to intense and I still get chills when the two songs 'Hanging' and 'Escape' blend together. Granted, this is a soundtrack album and has the feel of one (some people don't like this because of inconsistantcy of music), it has a grand flow and is great for background music, inspiring creativity and just gazing out the window to feed your thoughts. This soundtrack was my first introduction to Craig Armstrong's work and I was very impressed. I recommend this work for people who enjoy classical music with a 'kick' and then some.
