About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Playlist: The Very Best of Steve Perry features 14 tracks defined on the back jacket as "the life-changing songs, the out-of-print tracks, the hits, the fan favorites everyone loves, and the songs that make the artists who they are." When Sam Cooke-lovin' Journey singer Steve Perry released his first solo album in 1984, it was to test the waters during some rare downtime between albums for the arena rock legends. The first single, "Oh Sherrie," was a smash and sowed the seeds for a possible future without his bandmates, which is exactly what happened in 1988 after Raised on Radio failed to live up to the standard of the Journey money-making machine. Perry never regained the spotlight, though he released numerous singles and records, all of which are represented here in one form or another. As far as "greatest-hits" packages go, Playlist hits nearly all of the high notes that similar Perry collections do, as well as most of the low ones. Reverend Lee Power, All Music Guide
