About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

This is a delightful collection of 20 singles and B-sides, 17 of which never found their way onto studio albums. Several of these selections have become concert favorites like "I'd Love to Kiss the Bangles" and "Michael D. Rocking in the Dail." Many of the remaining tracks possess the youthful exuberance found on earlier albums like If This Is Rock'n'Roll, I Want My Old Job Back and All the Way From Tuam presumably since they were written during that early period. The Saw Doctors playfully mix early rock & roll with punk, country, folk and even Motown and, as is their trademark, compliment the music with themes of youthful lust, small town living, growing up Catholic and other recurrent identifiers. Lead vocalist Davey Carton compiled this collection so the integrity of the band and what they stand for is preserved. This album is packed full of gems, some familiar to loyal fans, others more obscure like the powerful "Sound Sham." For those who haven't had the experience of seeing this band live or haven't heard the numerous Saw Doctors four-song single releases Play it Again Sham! is indeed the missing link. December 05, 2003: The newest release from the Saw Doctors is not the “new” album that fans have been hoping for, but more of a “greatest hits” compilation. Play It Again Sham! opens with the UK top 40 hit “World of Good” & continues with assorted b-sides & singles such as “Small Bit of Love”, "I'd Love To Kiss the Bangles", the hurling player’s anthem “Small Ball” & live favorites such as “Michael D Rocking in the Dali” & “Bless Me Father”, which has found a permanent position on the band’s set list. After listening to a group of songs that make you wonder “why didn’t that make it on to a major release?” the album wraps up with the live version of “Where’s the Party?” An ageless tale of college life that still lives on at universities worldwide. Davy Carton, the bands lead singer shed some light on how Play It Again Sham! came to be. He said that there was always someone on the band’s message board asking them to play this song or that or where could they find “that song” they heard at a gig. So he compiled the wide assortment of songs, used the name that a friend had suggested originally for the band’s second album and here it is.

October 21, 2003: Not the first albumn I'd buy from the group but a real strong albumn none the less. It took me three listens through to really enjoy it and aprecciate boys work.
