Editorial Reviews

As far as it goes, this 12-cut Fats Domino compilation -- issued as part of Capitol's largely unimpressive Platinum series in 2007 -- is solid. The biggest hits are here: "Blueberry Hill," "Ain't That a Shame?," "I'm Walkin'," "Walking to New Orleans," and "I'm Ready." That said, 12 cuts are simply not enough Fats Domino, especially when the disc -- despite its budget price tag -- is less than half an hour long. Those looking for something a little bit more substantial would be well advised to seek out the 30-cut Greatest Hits: Walking to New Orleans, also released in 2007. There are real liner notes, and virtually all the major cuts are included along with truly wonderful surprises for those less knowledgeable about the man and his music, but who are curious. Leave this one behind and spend the extra few dollars; you will not be sorry. Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
