About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Reteaming with the Band, Bob Dylan winds up with an album that recalls New Morning more than The Basement Tapes, since Planet Waves is given to a relaxed intimate tone -- all the more appropriate for a collection of modest songs about domestic life. As such, it may seem a little anticlimactic since it has none of the wildness of the best Dylan and the Band music of the '60s -- just an approximation of the homespun rusticness. Considering that the record was knocked out in the course of three days, its unassuming nature shouldn't be a surprise, and sometimes it's as much a flaw as a virtue, since there are several cuts that float into the ether. Still, it is a virtue in places, as there are moments -- "On a Night Like This," "Something There Is About You," the lovely "Forever Young" -- where it just gels, almost making the diffuse nature of the rest of the record acceptable. [In 2003, Columbia/Legacy reissued 15 selected titles from Dylan's catalog as hybrid SACDs, playable in both regular CD players and Super Audio CD players. Each title is packaged as a digipak, containing the full original artwork. On each of the titles, and on each of the layers, the remastered sound is spectacular, a considerable upgrade from the initial CD pressings.] Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

July 14, 2009: Dylan and The Band get together and make a bare bones album in 3 days. Other groups cant make an album this good in a year! The hight-light is certainly the two versions here of Forever Young, but the whole album is very good and is a pleasure to listen to.

I Also Recommend: Desire [Remastered], Blood on the Tracks [Remastered].

October 27, 2005: I don't get the dismissal's of Planet Waves. It may not have the stature of some of Dylan's albums, but it's good music, with the excellent backing of The Band no less! And it was certainly popular when it was first released.
