The 2003 edition of Paws Across America follows up on the same idea as the first: take the an EP's worth of tracks from the three main Tigerbeat artists hitting the road (Kid 606, DJ /rupture, and Dwayne Sodahberk) and add bonus tracks from opening artists/fellow Tigerbeat6 labelmates. The frantic yet beautiful contributions from {|DJ /rupture|} are among his finest efforts to date, and Kid 606 once again lives up to his reputation as being one of the most prolific producers on the IDM circuit. Easily one the finest moments on the album comes from Detroit-based Soundmurderer, whose live mix of "Champion" is reflective of the dark intensity that he brings to each of his ragga sets. The previous year's Paws Across America headliner Stars as Eyes also return, with "I'm So Bored With What the Teacher Is Teaching," a soft, pristine lullaby that turns into a full-out electronic nightmare midway through and closes the album in fitting fashion. While not as diverse as the first installment, it's still a fun, unapologetically intense look at not only the future of Tigerbeat6 but of abstract electronic music as well.
