About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Guitarist Lee Ritenour, a.k.a. Captain Fingers, has been doing what he excels at for so long that any new release is virtually guaranteed to bring considerable pleasure to his devoted fan base. This live recording, featuring a slew of exceptional musical guests who include vocalist Kenya Hathaway, drummer Harvey Mason, pianist Dave Grusin, keyboardist Patrice Rushen, and saxophonists Eric Marienthal and Ernie Watts, is no exception. Ritenour remains the consummate stylist, his fleet flights tinged with bluesy expression and touched with the spirit of his greatest inspiration, jazz guitar giant Wes Montgomery. With tracks such as Montgomery's "Boss City," the classic Kind of Blue ballad "Blue in Green," a funky cover of the Temptations' "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," the lovely Brazilian groover "She Walks the Earth" (with co-composer Ivan Lins on vocals), and a group of the leader's strongest original tunes, Overtime works as a survey of Ritenour's strengths as a player, writer, and group leader. Thirty-plus years after he first burst onto the scene, this guitar phenomenon remains at the top of his game. William Pearl, Barnes & Noble
