It's sad that other works from Carl Orff are so hard to find. Everytime I go to a store and look in his section, I see a dozen different recordings of Carmina Burana but no other works from this composer.
This CD actually has the trilogy which begins with Carmina Burana and continues with two other choral works that complete the trilogy called Trionfi. The second work, Catulli Carmina, is mostly choral without orchestral accompaniment. The choral work is fantastic. The capabilities of the human voice are stretched beyond any limitations I had previously thought. The final piece in the trilogy, Trionfo di Aftodite, took me a few listens to grow on me. It is pretty strange, but now I love it. It has a strange way of ending the trilogy. It doesn't have the strong closure at the end that Carmina Burana has.
These recordings were made decades ago, and the pictures in the CD case show pictures of Carl Orff working with the conductor in this recording, so this lead me to believe that Carl Orff had some involvement in this recording. This CD is a gem and I highly recommend it.
