About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Put 2007 albums by Pam Tillis, Martina Lambert, and Gretchen Wilson back-to-back-to-back, and only a dullard couldn't figure out that the best singers in the land are working the country side of the ledger. Real growth is apparent in Wilson's latest entry, by far her most potent yet. She's been so identified with the yahoo element coalescing around her Muzik Mafia compadres (and her own "redneck woman, here for the party" stance) that her considerable gifts as a balladeer have been somewhat obscured. No more. The party crowd will be sated by the likes of "There's a Place in the Whiskey," a rowdy, good-time ode to dissolution with a decidedly Skynyrd boogie vibe, and the stomping "If You Want a Mother," in which a needy male paramour is given a dose of brutal truth when a sassy Wilson coos malevolently, "I'll show you what a mother I can be." But Wilson best expresses herself in the gently rocking title song: "I'm more than just one of the boys," she says, one of several eye-opening moments when she admits to very human, very female longings. She gets soulful in a frank, hymn-like appeal for redemption, "Heaven Help Me," tenderhearted in the makeup tear-jerker "Come to Bed" (co-written with duet partner John Rich), and utterly bereft of hope in the classic honky-tonk breakup lament "Pain Killer." Wilson's songwriting, especially in her Rivers Rutherford collaborations, feels like real life set to music, and the impressive lineup of musicians know when to pull out the stops and when to rein it all in. This is real-deal country, good as it gets. David McGee, Barnes & Noble

May 07, 2007: Gretchen came on the scene with her Here For The Party CD and that was a smash... then came the All Jacked Up CD and that was ok but not as good as the first one. and now hearing this one... i think she is on the way to having a new smash record!!! I love Gretchen
