About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

On Through the Night, Def Leppard's debut album, established the band as one of the leading lights of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. While possessing the tight, controlled attack of comrades Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, Def Leppard was uninterested in the fantastic, menacing, and sometimes gothic themes of those bands; instead, On Through the Night is a collection of working-class hard rock anthems informed by the big, glittering hooks of glam rock. It may lack the detailed production and more pop-oriented songwriting of later efforts, but it's also arguably their heaviest album, and some Leppard fans prefer this sound. September 16, 2005: A truly impressive debut from this Sheffield band. These songs are not played on Def Leppard´s concerts in these days, which is sad as many of the tracks are quite solid efforts. The album takes off with a sparking riff telling the listener that these adolescents are ready for world domination. Guitarists Pete Willis (no longer in the band) and the late Steve Clarke have written some really great, and tricky, riffs. Rick Allen demonstrates his incredible talent for drumming, and there are a few spots for him to really shine. This album is a bit overlooked, but this is the sound of Def Leppard that a lot of fans probably miss today. However, huge things were around the corner.
