In 1972 Benny Goodman's All Star Sextet was recorded live in Copenhagen; this material was released shortly thereafter on a Decca double LP. After languishing for years in record company vaults, cutout bins, and used record stores, the music was reissued on CD in 2006 by Universal, then by Dutton Vocalion in 2007. Goodman, true to his life-long policy of working with excellent instrumentalists, combined the talents of saxophonist John Haley "Zoot" Sims, vibraphonist Peter Appleyard, and guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli with solid support from pianist Bill McGuffie, bassist Hal Gaylor, and drummer Elmer "Mousie" Alexander. The warmth and camaraderie that pervade the entire contents of this album warrant its designation as one of Goodman's very best recordings of the early '70s. It will appeal especially to those who can't get enough of Zoot Sims. ~ arwulf arwulf, All Music Guide All Music Guide
