Editorial Reviews

Never a label to shy away from a good compilation, San Francisco's Om Records release the eighth in their Om Lounge series, assembling mostly exclusive tracks from the company's heavy hitting stable of artists. Always championing the seductive, rather than orgasmic, side of house and downtempo, these 13 tracks meld deep tissue bass with feather tickling high-end, and the occasional finger-sucking vocal on tracks from Atlanta guru Chris Brann (caught here as P'Taah) and U.K. multi-genre producer, the tragically named Bitstream Dream. But the true gem in this package is the newly prolific Mark Farina whose "Dream Machine," off of his stellar debut artist album, Air Farina, is a sort of shanty back-alley pop with tin can percussion and perfectly unaffected vocals by Sean Hayes. In fact, before lying down for this production-line compilation, you'd probably be better off grabbing Farina's full-length, or the new one by Om's newest house superstar, Kaskade. In the days when house music was a singles game meant for club and DJs, assembling tracks like this was essential for the home listener. But with so many producers finally delivering the goods on artist albums, this is defiantly a second tier priority. ~ Joshua Glazer, All Music Guide All Music Guide
