Editorial Reviews

Lionel Bart's musical version of Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens's novel of Industrial Revolution London in the late 19th century, was far more entertaining than the subject matter would suggest. The show has Dickens's sad story of poverty and crime, but also one of the strongest scores heard on Broadway in the 60s -- "I'd Do Anything," "Be Back Soon," "Oom-Pah-Pah," "As Long As He Needs Me" -- in fact, it's one hit after another (no wonder this album reached #4 in the charts and went gold). And it has the incomparable Georgia Brown too. William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

February 18, 2009: We bought this to share with the children, and they love it. They listen to it both in their room and in the car. The songs are delightful and well-performed.

Our one complaint was that one or two songs are run together rather than separated into tracks, so that you have to listen to the first one to hear the second one. That was minorly annoying. Also, it does not have the song "That's Your Funeral."

This complaints were minor, however, and the enjoyment is large. We are delighted with the CD.
