Offerings, round one of Third Day's foray into praise & worship, was an immediate hit and set the Atlanta-based band apart as that rarest of things: a rock outfit willing to take risks. Count this as another one. Following their critical and commercial smash, Come Together, the southern rockers return with a second praise & worship collection, and it's just the thing to revitalize this genre. Blending solid power-rock anthems, uplifting ballads, and an inspirational praise message, II is as solid as its predecessor. Offerings II blends live and studio recordings -- and in this case, those live cuts come from the band's hugely successful 2002 tour. That gives this collection some considerable punch. Of the new material, four songs were written by the band, all solid pieces of songcraft. "Anything" and Third Day's cover of Rich Mullins's "Creed" are richly textured performances, but for sheer energy and passion, you can't beat the live cut "Show Me Your Glory." When it comes to praise & worship, it seems a second helping of Offerings is just what we've been needing. Lisa Zhito, Barnes & Noble
