About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Cradle of Filth's 2004 effort Nymphetamine gets the deluxe treatment with this two-disc set. Joining the original studio album is a spread of revealing new artwork, the video for "Nymphetamine," and six additional songs. The band becomes "Cradle of Cliff" for an entertaining version of the Cliff Richard classic "Devil Woman." Dani Filth deadpans the lyrics with backing from guest King Diamond, and Cradle's propulsive beats and synthesizer hooks somehow suggest Dio's "Rainbow in the Dark." There are also eager takes on Bathory's "Bestial Lust" and Ozzy Osbourne's "Mr. Crowley." The covers are joined by the all-new "Prey" and "Soft White Throat" -- both ambitious, metallic and slightly overdramatic in a way that's unique to Cradle of Filth -- as well as "Nymphetamine -- Jezebel Deva Fix," an alternate version of the title track featuring Cradle backing vocalist Sarah Jezebel Deva. As for Nymphetamine itself, it's evil with value-added entertainment. The band moves away from the novellas of 2003's Damnation and a Day for a tighter focus on songcraft. A yowling, growling Dani Filth chews up the band's often very melodic guitar lines, and wind-whipping, galloping speed metal slams into swirling gothic atmosphere at every turn. Album highlights include "Absinthe With Faust," the rapid-fire "Medusa and Hemlock," and "Filthy Little Secret." Black robes, gargoyles, epic synthesizers, and ripping distortion -- it's all part of the "slick perverted wraiths" game. The group's dark embrace always comes with just a little bit of showmanship. July 11, 2006: I never used to like Cradle Of Filth, at all. During the time Cruelty And The Beast and Midian came out I was knee deep in Marilyn Manson and the like. The vocals were a little to harsh for me and the overly gothic thematic elemets were a turn off. Sure, I was used to a guy with stockings and garters but COF just never sat right. One day I came across the video for Nymphetamine and figured, "What the hell, what could it hurt?" I have always been a sucker for female vocals and Dani's parts were hypnotic. Since Midian I had listened to all types of metal and even became okay with shrieking vocals so I finally decided to give in to their gothic charm. I can't stop listening to them and this album is amazing. After going back and purchasing all of their albums and digesting them I realize that not only are Cradle more accessible now to a wider audience but they keep things fresh enough with the constant line-up changes and unique concepts. They are still as great as they were on Dusk but different in ways that make each album a treasure. If you are new to Cradle Of Filth start here and move backward. Oh yeah, Nemesis rocks! Let us hope Thornography surpasses even this great album!

November 09, 2005: This two disc special edition has all the songs from the last cd, Nymphetamine, and six new songs, including the Sarah Jezebel Fix on Nymphetamine. The video that is included rocks, if you haven't seen it, and if you have, now you can see it anytime you wish! I love the song Devil Woman, Soft White Throat, Mr. Crowely, Prey, Bestial Lust! ALL rock man! Of course, they don't sound like they used to, but CRADLE OF FILTH IS STILL Cradle of Filth. Appreciate their work, they've come a LONG way!
