About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Now into the fifth decade of his career, Steve Winwood remains a remarkable presence in the rock and pop universes: a singer, instrumentalist, and composer of imperishable gifts. Winwood's first full-length studio album in five years accommodates his talents by way of well-crafted original songs that make use of the eclectic influences -- blues, Afro-pop, Latin, folk, and R&B -- that have marked much of his best work. Linking it all is the vocal prowess of a still exceptional singer whose power and expressive urgency belie his age. Although strong contributions from supporting players -- including percussionist Jovino Santos Neto and former Blind Faith bandmate Eric Clapton, who slips in some impassioned guitar runs on "Dirty City" -- enliven the performances, the spotlight remains firmly on the apparently ageless Winwood. July 17, 2008: A great album from a master of the musical potjiekos. The collegial nod to 70s Santana in some songs is groovy to an nth degree. Way to go Bra Steve!! From a South African fan...
