About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Cutting back on the guest musicians of her previous effort and paring down to a basic small group of musicians helps add immediacy to Night Ride Home. While this release features several of Joni Mitchell's favorites, nothing here would become a hit, as Joni tended to buck trends and follow her own beat. Very involved and a rather tough listen, but well worth the attention, this would be her last for Geffen, where she languished unnoticed while the label went heavy metal crazy. June 15, 2007: If you missed this album first time around because of Geffen's shortsightedness..get it now. It contains some of Mitchell's best work and artistic genius. Her acoustic sound is back and her poetry is at its best. Ofcourse all the critics are eating their words years later about this true Renaissance artist. Her take on Yeats is a marriage of the melodic and dramatic. The songs explore spirituality and romance. "The Only Joy In Town" is Joni past and present. "Two Grey Rooms" shows Mitchell's literary intellect. A beautiful album with so many layers it requires repeated listening to take it all in. There is also a rare collector's edition with photograghs by Joni.
