About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

While continuing to grow as an artist, Dan Fogelberg extended himself even further on his fourth album, Nether Lands. Somewhat of a concept album, replete with orchestration and following an underlying theme throughout, it had the feel of a long, unified musical suite. Powerful, moving, and emotionally charged, it firmly established Fogelberg as a major artist whose creative reach seemed boundless. Arriving at the height of the California rock explosion, the album brought together rock, pop, country, folk, and classical musical ideas in a fully cohesive effort. Though some of the songs could stand on their own, the album begs to be listened to as a complete work. Fogelberg was stretching himself to ambitious heights, not only through his songwriting, singing, and turns on various instruments, but also by producing the album himself. Nether Lands both reflected and surpassed the '70s music sound and, most importantly, still resonates many years later. Steve Matteo, All Music Guide

January 22, 2006: This recording is signature Dan Fogelberg in his most poetic and musical best. Although there were many classic DF performances to follow this one, this one is the best representation of imagery through music that I have ever heard any pop artist record. The orchestration is in the right places, air and space are inserted where needed, and the songs are superb. 'Nether Lands' is a recording to be treasured for many generations to come.

August 16, 2001: This album is an example of what a talented artist can achieve. Not only can he play a variety of instruments with such feeling, but the title track has some of the best lyrics i have ever read.I take it to heart,as my song, but from Love gone by,with Don Henley singing backups,to a spiritual Dancing Shoes, this is a signature by a truly talented man.If you can't feel with this music, you can't feel. The orchestrations are very intense..
