About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Diehard fans won't be disappointed by Anita Baker's My Everything, her first recording in ten years. Like a fine wine, the Detroit native's ripe, jazzy vocals have only improved with time. During her absence, however, the modern R&B landscape has changed, relying more on T&A than creativity. But throughout the disc -- compact at ten songs -- Baker continues to give us the best that she's got. The Grammy winner uses her rich, gospel-informed contralto to great effect on several tracks, most notably on the Latin-tinged "In My Heart," the soaring "Serious," and the surefire quiet-storm classic "Close Your Eyes." Unfortunately, the production doesn't match her talent. Underwhelming adult contemporary arrangements mar songs such as "Like You Used to Do," a corny duet with Babyface that finds the producer calling Baker his boo, and the lifeless, harmony-driven "How Could You," which fail to meet the high standard set by smoldering Baker gems like "Sweet Love" and "You Bring Me Joy." Perhaps for her next disc, Baker will take a cue from Blue Note label mate Cassandra Wilson and recruit musicians who can help her evolve into the innovative, contemporary jazz diva she's worthy of becoming. July 26, 2008: This CD showcases Anita at her best! Every track is a work of art! This CD is a must-have for any Anita Baker fan or anyone who enjoys good smooth jazz music! She also does a duet with Babyface on &quot Like You Used To Do&quot and the last track was dedicated to her husband, and two sons (very sweet)! A true class-act!! Welcome back Anita Baker, we've missed you!!

July 18, 2006: You gotta love Anita. She took 10 yrs of and still came back to the front line. This CD is actually better in material than her last ROL. But her voice seems a litttle timid on this one.Like shes scared to sing. But the classic cuts on here is "I cant Sleep" "In my Heart" "Close your Eyes" Compositions is my Fav Anita CD.But this lady has only Released 6 Albums and is still considerd top of the game so that speaks for itself Anitas Baker Biggest Fan
