Destined to replace the Gypsy Kings' back catalogue as the mood music of choice is Chris Wilson and Alexander Janko's evocative soundtrack for the surprise-hit romantic comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Blending something old and something new, the disc features both lilting originals and new recordings of traditional tunes performed with consummate grace by the Greek Wedding Band. Grand romance is played out to the strains of the guitar-like bouzouki, the twinkling dulcimer, and the ever-festive accordion, which meld seamlessly with subtle piano, flutes, yearning woodwinds, and tender (but never overwrought) strings. The sprightly instrumentals "Stalia, Stalia" and "Yiayia" will have you twirling around in utter bliss, while the tender ballad "All My Dreams" may have you weeping into your ouzo. Best is the gloriously exotic, tambourine-driven "Istanbul Coffee House," a sonorous treat for the ears and the mind. With music this festive, this wedding shouldn't be missed.
