Although Marvin Gaye was charismatic enough to deliver a striking live show, his strength was always as a studio singer where the microphones could pick up the subtle nuances of his brilliant phrasing. This ten-song set, unfortunately, is made up of live recordings, and while it is always great to hear Gaye sing "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Let's Get It On," "Sexual Healing," and the other hits from his impressive legacy, these are nowhere as poised and effective as his studio versions.
