Mozart: Requiem (Maunder Edition) | ||
| 1. | Requiem for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, K. 626 | |
| Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | ||
| Performed by Academy of Ancient Music, Academy of Ancient Music, Westminster Cathedral Choir, David Hill, Anthony Rolfe Johnson, Emma Kirkby, Carolyn Watkinson and David Thomas | ||
| Conducted by Christopher Hogwood | ||
The solo team is strong one, with Carolyn Watkinson and Anthony Rolfe Johnson in particularly fine voice. Apart from their own solo contributions they blend with Emma Kirkby and David Thomas to form a surprisingly homogeneous quartet... The performance as a whole is fervent and committed and for this we must thank Christopher Hogwood and Richard Maunder [who provides a new edition of the unfinished work]... Sussmayr's edition of the Requiem will no doubt continue to be performed for years...but this new, pioneering version is an absolute revelation. RG Gramophone
