About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Dance floor guru Brian "BT" Transeau returns with MOVEMENT IN STILL LIFE, his first full-length album since 1997's ESCM. Signed to leading British DJ Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label in 1995, BT gained a reputation for delivering high-energy Eurtorance that was extremely effective in giant nightclubs across the globe. Tracks like "Embracing the Future" and "Remember" were dance floorfillers, and his 1996 collaboration with Tori Amos, "Blue Skies," gained him minor success in America. STILL LIFE remains true to BT's high-energy dance roots with the club hit "Dreaming" (with Opus 3's Kirsty Hawkshaw on vocals) and the 303-workout "Mercury and Solace." But the album also finds him trying to expand his repertoire: drum 'n' bass ("Smartbomb"), hip-hop ("Madskills"), and even straight-ahead guitar tracks ("Shame" and "Satellite") all find their way into his mix, with varying results. Like Moby, BT is intent on showing that dance music is only one part of his musical vision, and MOVEMENT IN STILL LIFE serves as a multigenre resume. David J. Prince, Barnes & Noble

November 22, 2000: i read somewhere not too long ago that BT never even wanted to do the whole trance thing (which is still brilliant in my opinion), but now that he's doing breaks/d&b/hiphop-influenced tunes like he always wanted to do, people are calling him a sellout...hmmm...well, if you ask me (and lots of other people), BT tears it up no matter WHAT genre he's producing music in. these nu-skool breaks are complex but still PHAT, and can definitely keep the party goin'.
