For those who can't get enough of Moulin Rouge, this 11-track disc features more choice performances by the film's stars, as well as a few ambient instrumentals. On the Las Vegas-worthy "Sparkling Diamonds," Nicole Kidman growls and purrs through a brilliantly paired medley of Marilyn Monroe's "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and Madonna's "Material Girl." Kidman's string-laden duet with costar Ewan McGregor, the ballad "Come What May," swoons and soars with equal measures of camp and tragedy. This second Moulin installment also includes the hilarious third-person rendition of the Madonna classic "Like a Virgin" and the sentimental cover of Queen's already emotional classic, "The Show Must Go On." Amiel's funny and seductive "Meet Me in the Red Room" is a bumping-and-grinding highlight. All of the tracks here are original film versions, except for the excellent Tony Phillips remix of "One Day I'll Fly Away," which interweaves Kidman's ethereal vocals with a Sneaker Pimps urban lullaby groove. Moulin Rouge 2 may be more for avid fans of Baz Luhrmann's frenetic film, but every track on this follow-up oozes with the over-the-top production and emotion that won over audiences in the first place.
