About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

With the power-riffs of a blues-rock band and the thick, pop sensibility of say, John Mellencamp, Mark Selby zeros-in on the essence of timeless roots rock. "Don't You Throw That Mojo on Me," has an intro that effectively weds modern, almost alternative studio devices with traditional acoustic blues then rolls along with New Orleans-style piano and a mean slide lead. Choogling through pop tunes ("She's Like Mercury") and the final, title song (which makes up for any lack of subtlety throughout), Selby has fashioned an atypically appealing modern blues-rock sound, easily filed between Kenny Wayne Shepherd and the Black Crowes. November 10, 2001: Mark Selby is simply the best ''new'' artist I have heard in years. As a writer for the likes of Kenny Wayne Shepherd, he has been around before I ever heard him. He is an original songwriter who is heavily blues influenced, but I hear other influences as well. He has the perfect voice for this kind of music and his guitar work... well, be it his slide work or has ''to the wall'' rock sound, he is in the same league as KWS and Johnny Lang -- and he writes and sings!!! Listen to this CD --> you won't be able to stop thinking about Mark Selby.
