About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

As satanic as anything need be, Cradle of Filth are a black metal ensemble from Suffolk, England, who've managed to keep it extreme, while being wildly popular internationally. They may be the most popular black metal band in the world because they've managed to break away from the genre's relatively small cult following and successfully infect all sorts of disaffected teenagers, especially in Europe. They never veer drastically from the usual black metal staples: movie monster-type vocals, lots of high-pitched screams, indecipherable lyrics, and relentless, punishing riffs. But Midian has its fair share of melody too. (Most of the finest metal does have some element of melody.) The album begins with a chorus of what sounds like some evil monks chanting and is at its very best when the ominous, classical-style keyboards kick in. ~ Adam Bregman, All Music Guide All Music Guide

In a word... WOWby Anonymous

July 11, 2006: When I purchased this album I seriously underestimated it. The first time I sat down and listened to it all the way through I was just blown away because all of the songs had the epic feel that they would later encorporate into Damnation and A Day and the gothic brilliance of Dusk and Her Embrace. In the end all songs became catchy and serves as a pefect middlepoint to Cradle's existence thusfar. Some would argue that Cradle's later albums perhaps may have lost the black ferocity of their earlier albums and others may dislike Dani's abrasive screaching on Dusk but with Midian they have crafted catchy, epic masterpieces that really are a testament to these musician's... musicianship.

February 14, 2006: It is hard to express just how genius Cradle is, just how powerful their musical force can be, or just how genius and poetic their lyrics can be. It takes a formidable band to turn classic horror literature like Clive Barker's Cabal (which Midian is based off of) and the works of Lovecraft (which too are incorporated into numerous Cradle works). Filled with their unique lyrics, and equally unique vocal style form to create yet another of Cradle's opuses, that which is Midian.
