About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Teen pop genie Christina Aguilera proves there's no limit to her magic on Mi Reflejo, acknowledging her Latin roots with her first album sung entirely in Spanish. All of her biggest English-language hits are here, plus several new tunes, rendered in a flawless castellano that would surely do her grandmother proud - especially since, by her own admission, Aguilera doesn't speak Spanish fluently. But whether she's jumping on the bandwagon or just trying to make her abuelos happy, there's no denying her vocal talent, which lends each cut a substance lacking in most of her fellow teen queens' productions. By the same token, her influences are readily apparent, from the ardent crooning of Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey to La India's feisty salsa-soul growl. Producer Rudy Pérez, known for his first-rate work with Latina lovelies Jaci Velásquez and Millie, adds his Midas touch throughout. Highlights include the merry romp of "Ven Conmigo," ("Come On Over") the funky grind-and-burn of "Una Mujer" ("What a Girl Wants"), and the salsafied flutter of the freshly-baked "Cuando No Es Contigo." Christina's got a sweet way with slower fare too, from the tender balladry of "Pero Me Acuerdo de Tí" to her soaring new duet with Puerto Rican heartthrob Luis Fonsi on "Si No Te Hubiera Conocido" ("If We Had Never Met"). In short, this is irresistible pop that transcends all language barriers. Abraham Velez, Barnes & Noble

Not nearly as good as some would tell you.....by Anonymous

January 17, 2002: First off, the original tracks in English are more natural sounding because they were originally conceived that way, NOT in Spanish. This makes for some odd-sounding phrases (''Ven conmigo, ven conmigo BAY-beh...''). Second, the songs written specifically for this CD are OK for the first few listens, but then they sounded pretty routine after that, didn't stand up well to repeated playings. And lastly, despite all the praise of how she's a great singer, I have yet to hear what all the fuss is about... she likes to go through scales which is good technique, but it doesn't automatically make someone a great singer. And I got tired of hearing her sing every phrase the same way.. that is with an annoying wavering drawl (''Por siempre tuuuuaaahhhhooHHhhhhoooahhh''). That's just overusing a certain effect, not great singing.

November 23, 2001: In Christina Aguilera's first Spanish album, one can see that she has even a better voice than on her debut album. It is flattering that she would sing in spanish, as she is a gringo, (despite having ecuadorian decent) but she does have an accent-an american one. But do not let this ruin the album for those hispanicos, as her accent isnt that big, and the new tracks are awesome. Despite that the translation for ''una mujer'' is quite strange, and the ''Por siempre tu'' translation includes ''of all you are my best option'', Christina still shines through. You can hear her talented voice throughout the tracks, and it flows well. From a few soulful ballads, to poppy tunes, Christina did well on her first Latin release, showcasing her beautiful voice, and her ''Latin'' side.
